I was desperate to find something to help my husband’s snoring issue after 15 years of marriage. I was skeptical about using essential oils, but it was my last option, outside of surgery.

When I began selling my hand-made skin care products, I made sure I was creating the best possible, safe and non-toxic product before I ever sold it publicly. We have used essential oils for over 20 years, but this is the first time we have used certified therapeutic grade essential oils! What a difference! Typically we’d pick up essential oils at the local health food store and use them to scent our products. We never used them for ‘health’ reasons, nor did we ever notice anything from using them in our products. It was strictly to make our products smell good! About 2 years ago, I removed all essential oils from my products, because I had read about the possible dangers of using non-therapeutic grade oils and I didn’t want to compromise the quality of my products.

Over the years I have personally done a lot of research on essential oils – those you buy at the store and therapeutic grade. I’ve done side by side comparisons between MLM essential oils and mainstream oils on the shelf of the local health food store. I learned so much about oils – I’m surprised I never took the time to learn all of this. I make natural skin care products, I know the ins and outs of safe and toxic ingredients. I know how to formulate oils, water and beeswax to make amazing lotions, creams and balms – but I knew nothing about the benefits or properties of essential oils.

Without going into a long story, a few months ago I was desperately looking for a solution for my husband’s intense snoring. We’ve been married for almost 15 years and he has always snored, but over the past 2-3 years, it had become extremely bad. For him and me. We believe he recently began experiencing sleep apnea and I was loosing a good 3 hours of sleep each night because of this. Believe me, we’ve tried so much already and nothing was working. Nothing.

I knew a couple friends who sold essential oils so I inquired with them if there were any oils for snoring. Now, mind you, there was nothing in me that actually believed an oil could help snoring issues in any way. Really. People get surgeries for this. Even now, the dentist will actually install something in your mouth to help with snoring – so how in the world could an essential oil do anything?

On a recent trip out of state to visit friends, I asked the question and she whipped out her essential oil book and looked up any blends that could help with snoring and happen to find a few. On a whim I ordered them and wanted to put them to the test since I was still 100% skeptical! Before we started using them, I read the entire handbook so I knew the hows, whys and I wanted to make sure I was applying them correctly. I was ready.

The night came when we would begin our week of testing. That’s all I gave it – I didn’t want to try longer (I’m typically very patient when trying natural remedies – but I was that skeptical). We applied the oils as directed – to my husbands chest and back and I diffused a couple of them as well. Then, we went to sleep. I laid waiting for the 5 minute window of quiet to end. By this I mean, my husband falls asleep in about 3-5 minutes and the snoring automatically begins and doesn’t end until he wakes up in the morning.

I waited a few minutes. Nothing. I waited longer. Nothing. I guess I fell asleep. I woke up a couple hours later and had to go to the bathroom – and normally this is when I would lose my 3 hours of sleep. I could never fall back asleep quickly because of how bad the snoring was. But, he wasn’t snoring. I went back to bed and stayed awake for a while, but eventually went to sleep without any snoring from the other side of the bed.

What?

I was shocked and so was my husband when I told him he didn’t snore. He honestly figured it was a fluke and that maybe he just slept deeply and that’s why there was no snoring. Hmmm. We did the same routine the next two nights with the same results. Okay, now I was intrigued, yet at the same time, still skeptical. I decided to do another test and take him off the oils for a couple of nights to see if this was really what it looked like. Bad choice. Both nights he snored just as bad as normal. I didn’t experiment anymore and began using the oils regularly every night. I am excited to say that we are almost TWO months of being snore-free at night (and those random Sunday afternoon naps) and I am ecstatic, intrigued and telling everybody I know about this awesomeness!

All that being said, I have read through the handbook at least five times – every line, description, side note…everything. I’ve pulled out all my books and information that I’ve stored over the past 22 years and have had my nose in those books for that past 2 months straight. I have also started my first course in essential oils with an amazing certification program. Finally, I have also signed up to be a distributor so I could pass along these amazing oils to anyone I know who is interested (something I thought I’d never do). Do you want to know the best part? The company I purchase these oils from is not an MLM (multi-level marketing). Not to say that MLM’S are bad, because they are not BUT, since it’s not an MLM, I can offer the oils at prices that are much less to you and this is always a good thing.

What’s the difference between me and others in the essential oil selling business? I can’t speak for everybody out there – but for the most part I have seen that most people who sell EO’s don’t really know about essential oils, why they work or how they work. Many can tell you what blends or single oils to use, but they can’t tell you why they work. I’ve talked to a few distributors of other brands and asked a few questions, and many didn’t realize that there is not one single certification in the United States that essential oil companies are required to use in order to sell EO’s. There are several different tests and you can choose whichever you want. You can also supply your own certification. They also weren’t aware which oils are phototoxic and shouldn’t be applied to the skin that will see sunshine within 12 hours after application. I’ve also been told that all therapeutic grade oils are safe for ingestion simply because they are therapeutic grade, but this isn’t true. There are many, many oils that can damage the intestines and digestive system since they are so potent and concentrated.
